Note 5 — Income Taxes The Company’s income tax expense was $8.5 million and $7.5 million, representing an effective income tax rate of 29.0 percent and 31.1 percent for the three months ended March 31, 2022 and 2021, respectively. Management concluded that as of March 31, 2022 and December 31, 2021, a valuation allowance of $1.6 million was appropriate against certain state net operating loss carry forwards and certain tax credits. For all other deferred tax assets, management believes it was more likely than not that these deferred tax assets will be realized principally through future taxable income and reversal of existing taxable temporary differences. Net income tax assets were $51.9 million and $44.1 million as of March 31, 2022 and December 31, 2021, respectively. As of March 31, 2022, the Company was subject to examination by various taxing authorities for its federal tax returns for the periods ending on or after December 31, 2018 through 2020 and state tax returns for the periods ending on or after December 31, 2017 through 2020. During the quarter ended March 31, 2022, there was no material change to the Company’s uncertain tax positions. The Company does not expect its unrecognized tax positions to change significantly over the next twelve months. |
